Davidson Takes Gotham Classic Opener

Jack Gibbs scored 37 points and Davidson shot over 59 percent from the field in earning a 96-86 win over Eastern Washington in the first game of the fourth annual Gotham Classic.

Gibbs, who entered the game as the nation’s fifth-leading scorer, was efficient in his scoring, connecting on 12-of-17 of his field goals, including 6-of-9 from three, and 7-of-8 from the foul line. He also had six rebounds. As a team, the Wildcats were equally efficient, shooting .596 (34-of-57) from the field and .500 (13-of-26) from three.

Jordan Barham was 8-of-11 from the floor in posting 22 points along with eight rebounds. Brian Sullivan recorded 22 points and six rebounds.

Eastern Washington also shot well, going 33-of-68 (.485) from the field. The Eagles were paced by Austin McBroom and his 33 points on 12-of-19 shooting, which included a 5-of-9 effort from three. Venky Jois registered 21 points and 14 rebounds and Bogdan Bliznyuk had 14 points.

The Gotham Classic resumes on Friday when Eastern Washington plays at Pittsburgh. Davidson is next in action on Saturday when it hosts Western Carolina.
