Pipkins leads UMass to 95-77 win over Kennesaw State

AMHERST, Mass. Luwane Pipkins tallied 27 points UMass-newand UMass shot 38-of-73 from the field to defeat Kennesaw State at a snowy Mullins Center.

Pipkins and Kennesaw State’s Kendrick Ray battled it out on the scoreboard as Ray netted 35 points for the Owls. However, Pipkins received more help as DeJon Jarreau scored 17 points, Rashaan Holloway scored 14 points, Donte Clark posted 11 points and six assists, and Tyrn Flowers had 10 points.

As a team, the Minutemen (8-3) were 12-of-24 from three and 7-of-9 from the foul line.

Ray, whose 35 points were six shy of the Gotham Classic record, was 11-of-17 from the field, 4-of-8 from three, and 9-of-9 from the foul line. He was joined in double figures by Aubrey Williams, who had 14 points and nine rebounds. The Owls fell to 3-8 on the season.

The Gotham Classic resumes on Sunday when North Carolina A&T hosts Rider. Kennesaw State will travel to Pacific on Tuesday. UMass closes out its Gotham Classic schedule on Thursday against Rider.
